For over a century, understanding the mechanisms of the dreaded elbow triad has been a major challenge. From initial surgical exploration to Osborne’s description of posterolateral rotational instability, and then to the biomechanical advances of the 1980s and 1990s, knowledge has gradually structured treatment. The standardization of therapeutic principles has improved early outcomes, although a universal consensus has not yet emerged.
We offer a concise overview of the main historical milestones, current treatment protocols, and future challenges of the dreaded elbow triad.
